These are some of my recent paintings, some in oils and some in watercolours. As you can see I do not stick to one subject but paint whatever excites me, often being inspired by nature and the things I see while out walking. This collection includes some of my ongoing series of paintings in which I share my worries about the planet and its loss of wildlife.

I have always been a keen bird watcher which certainly helps with getting the birds in their correct pose & in their natural settings, I am particular with my detail & it takes many hours to complete each bird. I was fortunate enough to have grown up with the world famous bird artist Basil Ede as a neighbour & his encouragement & helpful tips set me on my way to my professional career.

I usually like to observe animals in the wild before painting them & living here in Devon I am lucky enough to encounter something on most of my walks. Apart from wildlife I also enjoy painting some of the many characterful farm animals I see here on Dartmoor, often with a slight sense of humour.

A subject very dear to my heart, I never grow tired of painting these jewels of the air. It is amazing how long it can take to paint just one butterfly as I like to get it looking as perfect as possible & in the correct setting, usually lifesize. Having been observing & painting butterflies & insects for many years I am acutely aware of their fragile existence, and their decline in recent years. I now have a new website dedicated solely to my insect paintings this is www.butterflypaintings.net  do have a look.

I am never stuck for inspiration living in such beautiful surroundings wether it be the wild moors or the chocolate box villages, the green & mossy woods or the beautiful Devon coast there is always something to excite a painting out of me. I paint my landscapes in watercolours and oils.

I have had a fascination for this mythical symbol for some time now and here in Devon we are lucky to have 17 churches with a total of 29 carved roof bosses showing the Three Hares running in a circle with their ears joined in the centre forming a triangle which gives the illusion that they each have two ears when in fact they only have one!
I have visited all seventeen churches and have done an oil painting of each which includes every boss. From this I have made a trail map and leaflet so others can find these intriguing carvings.

I just love painting flowers, trying to capture their delicacy & beauty usually in watercolour. It was my move to Devon in 1969 & discovering its verdant hedgebanks & profusion of wildflowers that really set me off & I have continued painting them ever since. My paintings have been used for greetings cards & book illustrations & I was honoured to be commissioned by the auther John Fowles to paint some rare wildflowers in Lyme Regis.
